With
an aging population in our county, the Vermilion County Health Department
aggressively pursues programming to help our seniors live healthier,
longer lives. Heart Disease remains a very real threat to much or
our population, regardless of their age; but the threat increases
as we age; more than one half of all Americans over the age of 65
have high blood pressure.
In the past we were able to provide monthly screenings at the health department and regular outreach screenings across the county, including screenings for high blood pressure, cholesterol and blood sugar, etc. Unfortunately, due to budget issues, those screening outreach services are suspended until further notice.
In
2008, our
Chronic Disease Clinics provided nearly 3,000 screenings for hypertension, cholesterol, and glucose.
