ProtectinG and improving the quality of life for residents of Vermilion County, IL is the responibility of our Environmental Health staff. Their mission is to ensure the safety of the water we drink, the food we eat, the air we breathe, and the ground upon which we walk.

Public health is mandated to provide three basic services:

Food Sanitation
Potable Water Supplies
Private Sewage Disposal

But our services don't end there - we also provide:
  • Vector Prevention and Pest Control - responding to the complaints of insect/rodent infestation*
  • Housing Program - dealing with inadequate housing complaints*
  • Solid Waste - enforcing county ordinances governing solid waste disposal*
  • Solid Waste Enforcement - enforcing Illinois Environmental Protection Agency regulation governing solid waste management and disposal.
  • Nuisance Control - investing complaints impacting public health*
  • Recycling - providing recycling programs for hazardous and household waste
  • Childhood Lead Poisoning Prevention - enforcing the lead Poisoning Prevention Act
  • Tanning Facilities Regulation - enforcing the Tanning Facilities Permit Act and Tanning Facilities code.
  • Home Loan Inspection - providing, for a fee, inspection of the private sewage disposal systems and well water prior to sale of property*
  • Subdivision Plans - enforcing the Vermilion County Subdivision Ordinance
    *Programs/services enforced or provided in Vermilion County, except within the city limits of Danville, which has its own inspections department.
