Environmental
Health enforces ordinances pertaining to
private sewage disposal, ensuring all sewage discharge in the county
is properly designed, constructed and operated. Since a 1993 agreement
with the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency, EH has provided
inspections for local licensed landfills.
Under the agreement,
EH staff investigate all complaints in the county regarding illegal
landfills, illegal dumping and other solid waste violations.
During 2003,
EH issued 101 solid waste haulers licenses, and conducted 2,654
field investigations,
